Brief History

• Project Rohtang was raised on 04 Mar 2010 at Solang Valley in Manali Sub-Division of Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, 18 Km from Manali town at an altitude of 8250 feet. The primary role of Rohtang Project was to ensure the construction of 8.80 Km long Rohtang tunnel. On 25 Dec 2019, on the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Tunnel was renamed as Atal Tunnel, Rohtang. The tunnel was completed on 31 Aug 2020 and dedicated to the Nation on 03 October 2020 by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. On 09 Feb 2022, Atal Tunnel, Rohtang was awarded as "Longest Highway Tunnel at an altitude above 10,000 feet" by World Book of Records, London.


• Post completion of Atal Tunnel, the Project Rohtang Tunnel was rechristened to Project Yojak on 04 Nov 2021 and the responsibility of construction of Shinkun-La Tunnel along with Nimu-Padam-Darcha (NPD) road of 298 Km and Langru-Photoksar-Niraq (LPN) road of 118 Km have been entrusted to the Project.
