Border Roads Organisation (BRO), true to its motto ‘Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam’, continues to be a cornerstone in India’s strategic infrastructure landscape. Through its relentless efforts in the harshest weathers, treacherous terrains, extreme high altitudes, limited working seasons and longer Lines of Communication, BRO works undeterred to enhance operational preparedness and to drive socio-economic development in the remotest border regions, thereby encouraging reverse migration and revitalising these frontier communities in the ‘First Villages’.
With a record budget expenditure of ₹16,600 crore in FY 2024 - 25, BRO achieved construction of 1,170 km of road length, reflecting its growing efficiency and ability to deliver under challenging conditions. Over the last three years, at a total cost of ₹9,576 crore, BRO has delivered 304 infrastructure projects comprising 82 road projects, 208 bridges, 2 tunnels and 12 miscellaneous works further strengthening strategic connectivity and integration in our border areas.
BRO proved itself as the ‘Go-To’ agency for key ministries such as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for delivering critical infrastructure in some of the most challenging regions. Its impactful road works in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas of Chhattisgarh have been a game changer in the Nation’s war against Naxalism. Construction of Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) fencing and strategic connectivity through Indo-China Border Roads (ICBRs) along the Northern borders exemplifies the vital role played by BRO. Extending its reach to the Southernmost point of the country, BRO has also connected Indira Point by constructing North-South road including a bridge over the Galathea river in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Projects like the Sela Tunnel, Saser Brangsa Bridger, Mudh Nyoma Airfield, Shinkhun La Tunnel and the Arunachal Frontier Highway further highlight the strategic foresight and engineering excellence of BRO. The unwavering commitment of BRO personnel is evident in their continued work even during harsh winters on the Nimmu-Padam-Darcha Road, exemplifying their dedication under the most challenging conditions.
Focussed attention & policy directives by the Government enabled BRO to undertake robust capacity development measures, provide impetus to EPC mode of execution, procure 27% new state-of-the-art equipment and launch special recruitment drives to make up for staff deficiencies. BRO is also leveraging latest technologies in collaboration with various reputed agencies such as CSIR and has introduced modular bridges in partnership with GRSE, resulting in a surge in the achievement of physical targets and budget expenditure. Simultaneously, BRO has implemented welfare measures for both its personnel and Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs), who form an integral part of the workforce, acknowledging their steadfast contributions in the most demanding conditions.
BRO’s prompt response in HADR operations, including the GLOF in Sikkim and Silkyara Tunnel rescue in Uttarakhand, reaffirms its preparedness and commitment to the Nation.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to all members of BRO and their families. May the Organisation continue to rise to greater heights and illuminate the path of National progress with renewed vigour, in line with the Government’s vision of “Surakshit Seemayein, Sashakt Bharat; Surakshit Seemayein, Samriddha Bharat.”
Jai Hind! Jai BRO!!
