Brief History
• Project Shivalik is located at Lal Tappar on Haridwar-Dehradun Road near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. Project was raised on 27th Aug 2008 and has been moved from IDPL Complex, Veerbhadra, Rishikesh to this location on Jan 2023. The Project was carved out of Project Deepak in Shimla, exclusively for undertaking development of road infrastructure in Uttarakhand with an aim to expedite road infrastructure development in remote and inaccessible areas especially on Indo-China Border areas.
• Shri VK Prasad, SE (Civ) was the first officer to report to the Project and he established a raising cell at 531 SS&TC at Rishikesh with minimal resources. Brig JK Narang took over as Chief Engineer of Project Shivalik on 14 Feb 2009 with his past experience in this sector as Commander 21 BRTF and CE Project Deepak provided momentum to the new raising. He along with team of officers moved the Project HQ to hired Building in IDPL Complex, Veerbhadra, Rishikesh. It was proud moment for Project Shivalik, when Maj Gen (Retd) BC Khanduri, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand inaugurated the HQ CE (P) Shivalik complex on 25 Feb 2009. The Project started functioning in its full capacity wef 01 Apr 2009.
• Project Shivalik is responsible for construction and maintenance of approximately 640 Km of roads along the LAC and international border from Greater Himalayan Range in the North to the plains of Garhwal. The Project in addition to the development of strategic Indo China Border Reads (ICBR), is responsible for improvement and upkeep of Road axis to the Chardham in testate of Uttarakhand which also include all major roads to famous pilgrimages such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and the holy pilgrimage place of Shri Hemkund Sahib.
• Project Shivalik has always been at the fore front of all rescue and rehabilitation in the state of Uttar hand in remote border areas as well as in the mainland. Project Shivalik has always beer first respondent during any natural or man made calamities.
