Project Sewak

Project Chetak

Brief History

• Project Sewak, one of the oldest Projects of the Border Roads Organisation was sanctioned by the Government of India as Headquarter Chief Engineer "Naga Hills and Tuensang area" on 11 Jul 1961 for the construction of roads in Mizoram, Lohit frontier division of NEFA(Present- day Arunachal Pradesh) and Nagaland. The first Chief Engineer of the Project took over command on 06 Aug 1961. Subsequently, the name of the Project was changed to Chief Engineer Project Sewak and HQ was established at Dimapur. The Project was aptly named "SEWAK" i.e. "TO DO SERVICE". To identify "SEWAK" with service to the Nagas, Crossed Naga Spears, the traditional colourful weapon, symbolic of the Naga tribes, was selected as the formation sign of the Project in Oct 1962.

• Presently the role of Project Sewak is mainly spread over Nagaland and Manipur states. The Project has two Task Forces Viz: 15 BRTF and 25 BRTF with their HQs at Kohima and Imphal respectively. 15 BRTF is responsible for works in Nagaland, whereas 25 BRTF is responsible for works in Manipur.
