Project Arunank

Project Arunank

Brief History

  • De-induction of (P) Zaranj from Afghanistan led to the raising of Project Arunank in Oct 2008. The name of the Project has been conceived from the name of the State of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • To accelerate the progress of works of high priority, CSG roads, SARDP-NE package, and PM package (announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during his visit to Itanagar in Jan 2008) were entrusted to Project Arunank.
  • The AoR of Project Arunank was carved out from one of the oldest BRO Projects, Project Vartak. Upgrades of NH-15, Hapoli-Sarli-Huri, Nacho-Tama-Chung-Chung (TCC), TCC-Maza, TCC-Taksing, and Taliha-Tato roads were entrusted along with maintenance of key roads.
  • Portions of Kimin-Ziro-Daporijo and Daporijo-Bame roads were handed over to PWD, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam PWD as part of the Trans Arunachal Highway. The Project continues connecting remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Achievements

  • Connected air-maintained posts in Arunachal Pradesh and established road communication up to Huri and Taksing.
  • Played a critical role in developing communication systems for socio-economic and strategic growth in the region.
  • Achieved significant milestones in Fin Yr 2020-21 by connecting Huri, Taksing, and Bidak with Class 40 bridges, reducing driving times and boosting socio-economic development.
  • Adapted to challenging terrain, hostile conditions, and limited resources while delivering essential infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Communication infrastructure in Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, Kurung Kumey, and Kra Dadi districts.
  • Construction of three high-priority Indo-China Border Roads (ICBRs) and two GS roads.
  • Overcoming harsh climatic conditions, difficult terrain, and limited local support to achieve goals.

The sheer determination and hands-on approach of officers and personnel have made Project Arunank a symbol of resilience and excellence.
